Week 2A: Social Media Platforms

I believe the social media platforms that are geared more towards personal use are Snapchat, Twitter, Pinterest and Tumblr. I believe these are more used for personal use because they are more about what you like and what your interests are. For example, Pinterest is about pinning things that you like or that you want to try for yourself. You can't really use Pinterest for business purposes unless you post recipes or DIY's. Snapchat is more for taking selfies with the cool filters and sending it to your friends. Business's can post advertisements on Snapchat but I don't know how well the app would work to post about your business.
Social media platforms that are used for business are Facebook and Instagram. These are a great way to promote your business. Facebook you can easily create a business page and people can post and read reviews. Its similar to yelp in that way. A Facebook business page also lets you put times the business is open and phone numbers for the business, etc. Instagram is also easy to use because you can write what your business is about in your bio. You can also post pictures of your business and write captions to let people know information about your business.
There are social media platforms that are good for both personal and business purposes. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter could all be used for personal and business purposes. You can separate personal from business purposes. I have an Instagram and I just post pictures of my boyfriend, friends, family etc. However, I could easily create another Instagram and use it to promote my business. I would just post pictures of my business or things related to my business and promote it that way. In conclusion, I think these are the easiest platforms to use for both personal and business. All of these social media platforms can be used in different ways. You can promote your business in any way, you just need to know how to do it.

Comments

  1. Hi Blair! I agree about Snapchat being geared more towards personal use. I've seen businesses try to use it for marketing purposes and the efforts seem to fall completely flat. Instagram seems like a much more successful platform for that type of marketing. I have, though, seen a lot of businesses promoting on Pinterest. If you have an eye catching image you can, in my opinion, be as successful on Pinterest as on instagram. Pinterest is mostly a collection of links so I've seen a lot of pins to buisnesses, shops, designers, etc.

  2. I agree with your choices for personal and business social medias. Although some businesses use Snapchat, Twitter, Pinterest and Tumbler, I think they are designed more for personal use. I also believe Facebook and Instagram are the best choices of social media for business because of how you can make specific business accounts that give more information on the business and sometimes link to their websites or other pages to shop.

  3. Blair, I completely forgot about SnapChat when I wrote mine. I agree that it is really good for personal use. I have seen it used for business as well because businesses can post daily snaps and add links for potential customers to click. All of the platforms are pretty versatile as far as business and personal use go.

  4. Hi Blair I also think that Snapchat & Pintrest aren't exactly meant for business, pintrest especially I think it's more for just wedding wishes & cooking & recipes & shopping
